Momento Board

Today Nanny Kimbo made a Momento Board. It was an upcycle project using things I already had. It's Little's birthday on Saturday and she requested one as Big and Mum both have their own.

To complete this project you will need:

Cork Notice Board or Foam Board
Cotton batting (I used the innards of a pillow)
Fabric (I used an old duvet)
Fabric scissors (and regular scissors if you want to back the board with paper)
Ribbon
Brads/Split pins
A tailor's awl or sharp pointy object
Glue (I used UHU and pritt stick but you could use a glue gun or other fabric glue)
Stanley knife (if you need to cut down your board)
Miniature pegs (optional)
Clothes pegs
Backing Paper (not pictured)
Momentos

First you will need to cut your board to size. I used a large cork board that I cut in half.

Measure your fabric. You need to have approximately 2 inches of extra fabric all the way around your board.

Something I figured out after my demo is that if you cover the board in Pritt Stick, you can cover it in a layer of cotton batting. You don't want your batting to be too thick.

When the board is evenly covered in batting, place your board, batting side down, on top of your fabric (You want the fabric wrong side up). Then pull the edges nice and tight and glue in place. If you are using UHU glue, you may wish to use clothes pegs to hold the edges in place whilst the glue dries.

Turn your board right side up and cut your ribbon to the desired length and place across your board in whatever pattern you choose.

Peg the ribbon pieces in the chosen position, turn the board over and glue the ribbon down. You may also wish to trim the ribbon and material down.

Once the glue has dried, make a hole at each intersection with your awl or sharp object. You may wish to place a blob of blu tac or play doh underneath to save any surfaces (and your fingers!).

After each hole, push through a brad and press firmly.

Turn the board over and open the pins. You may need to use the awl or scissors to push the back flat.

Once the brads are all in place, turn your board over and trace around the edges with glue. Attach a piece of backing paper to the board and trim to size. You may also wish to add a hanging loop.

Now your moment board is ready to be decorated and hanged. You can use the miniature pegs to hold items in place if you are hanging things at the bottom of the board.

The board makes a great gift and Mother's Day is coming up soon!

Enjoy.
